Romania bans advertising for e-cigarettes and nicotine pouches

The Romanian Chamber of Deputies this week passed a bill banning advertising for electronic cigarettes and nicotine pouches, Romania Insider reports.

"It is prohibited to explicitly advertise tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, including vapes, products intended for inhalation without burning from tobacco substitutes, electronic devices for heating tobacco and products intended for inhalation without burning from tobacco substitutes, as well as nicotine pouches for oral use (pouches) broadcast in radio and television programs and on public transport tickets," the bill states.

The bill also prohibits advertising of these products in educational and health institutions or within 200 meters of their entrances. Advertising is also prohibited in publications primarily intended for minors and in theaters before, during and after performances intended for minors. Advertising is prohibited that targets minors, shows minors consuming these products, suggests that these products have therapeutic properties or have a stimulating, calming effect or can solve personal problems, presents a negative image of abstinence or does not contain warning texts in Romanian.
